Being a DJ isn't just how you mix one track into another, it's about timing, energy and feeling the crowd.
But before all that, there's the preparation.

Here Andrew takes you through the steps getting your set ready for a big night.

I would say, once you have your set list, re-add all these tracks in a new playlist. So browse for the files/folders on your computer and drag them back into your DJ software.
This way you have all the tracks you need, and all ready for brand new cue-points without killing the old cue-points.

I'm setting myself a weekly task:
  • Research new music and build music library by checking various charts: beatport, spotify, apple music, iTunes
  • Download the top songs using beatport, iTunes, or use a DJ pool
  • Use RB or Serato to get the song key, or for accuracy and energy use Mixed in Key
  • LISTEN to the new music you've imported and start mixing it to find combinations of transitions that work REALLY REALLY well
  • Add some more music until the playlist/set is around 90 minutes
  • Keep working those combinations and transitions until the set works as best as it can

My first set, it took 4 attempts to narrow the playlist down to an hour and perfect the mixing.
